Queen of Broken Hearts
Mar 6, 2007

"Queen of Broken Hearts"
Author: Cassandra King
Publisher: Hyperion
Publication Date: March 2007

This is a modern romance - with all of the hardships and difficulties of modern life. Struggles with career, family, love, and of course, independence.

Clare is a "Divorce Coach". This doesn't make her very popular in her small Southern town of Fairhope, Alabama. (Which, by the way I have visited and it's adorable!)

People tend to think that she's a marriage breaker, since she counsels women on how to survive, and even thrive, during and after a divorce. She holds seminars at the Civic Center, drawing a nice crowd of unhappy women each time. Also drawing people to mutter outside that she's nothing more than a "disturber". Editorials are sent in to the local paper demanding she leave town and let up stirring the women folk up.

While Clare is showing others how to thrive and survive, she herself is in quite an emotional struggle.

Several years earlier her husband, Mack, had died suddenly and unexpectedly. For reasons I will leave for you to find out, Clare feels guilt and an unending love for him that makes it very difficult for her to move on with her own life.

But.. at the same time, she has a burly sea captain - Rex, who has recently moved into town, and also a suave "man with money", New Orleans gentleman - Rye, who just happens to be someone she's known for a few years and feels is a "great friend", after her affections.

This is the story of Clare. Clare trying to make a living, help people, overcome her guilt over her husband's death and find love again for herself. All while not getting chased out of town with her tail between her legs by the opinions of half the citizens.

This book is filled with love, angst, indecision, the difficulties of moving on.... and of course, the usual Southern idiosyncrasies that we all have and love.

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
