How's that for a title? Sounds like a country song right? Well, Dixie Cash (actually two ladies working as a team) has been doing that on purpose for their last few books. My favorite might be "Don't Make Me Choose Between You and My Shoes".... or maybe "My Heart May Be Broken, But My Hair Still Looks Great". I could go on!
Anyhow, this current book with the fun title centers on Darla Denman, a washed up country singer that has lived life a little too hard and fallen off her pedestal. She now has her first ex-husband (as opposed to her fourth) working as her manager ans they travel the country circuit in a bus that's prone to breakdowns, working the smokey bars again.
When Darla's opening act - Roxie - a woman who was all about climbing and stepping on anyone to get ahead - is found murdered, Darla is the first suspect. Why? Roxie was doing her best to step on Darla to get ahead and could be considered a serious threat to what's left of Darla's career. Oh yes, Roxie was also married to Darla's ex-husband.
Debbie Sue and Edwina jump on the case to prove Darla's innocence. They're great investigators, in between styling hair that is.
A fun read, full of excitement and humor. Spring is coming up, the beach is calling and this is just the sort of book to pack into that beach bag.
