The Cut
Author: George Pelecanos
Publisher: Reagan Arthur/Little, Brown
Publication Date: August 29, 2011
ISBN: 978-0-316-07842-9

What the Publisher Says:

Spero Lucas has a new line of work. Since he returned home after serving in Iraq, he has been doing special investigations for a defense attorney. He's good at it, and he has carved out a niche: recovering stolen property, no questions asked. His cut is forty percent.

A high-profile crime boss who has heard of Lucas's specialty hires him to find out who has been stealing from his operation. It's the biggest job Lucas has ever been offered, and he quickly gets a sense of what's going on. But before he can close in on what's been taken, he tangles with a world of men whose amorality and violence leave him reeling. Is any cut worth your family, your lover, your life?

What Idgie Says:

George Pelacanos is well known for his work on “The Wire”, and HBO hit series, but he’s also known for his crime novels. He’s had several stand alone books, but this is the first in a new series he’s started.

Spero Lucas is someone different from other crime novel protagonists in that he’s quite young for one. Only 29. He has not had earned that hardened armor of too much, too long. There’s still a spark in there. He still single, not from bitter divorces with kids he never sees but again, from his age. It does change up the book from the usual.

George also takes great attention to detail in his books. Nothing is missed. His knowledge of the Washington D.C. area is incredible. I wouldn’t be surprised if even the tiny deli’s and smoke shops he describes are not actually there.

I will say that if you really enjoy the crime novel genre you’ll want to snatch this book up right away, it has all the ingredients you’re looking for.

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
