Nautilus Publishing is becoming very well known for it's big, bold, beautiful coffee table books - mainly centering on Mississippi. This book leaves that lovely state and heads to Memphis.
The inside cover states that these well known individuals were not necessarily born in Memphis, but exploded onto the scene or became something grand while living in or being influenced by Memphis. For example Elvis, who as we all know was born in Mississippi, but rose to fame in Memphis.
The photographs are stunning, the people enigmatic. I love that this book centers on photographs from famous people such as Johnny Cash, Tennessee Williams, Cybil Shepherd and Jefferson Davis, but also reaches back into WWII to bring us Pete Gray, the one-armed baseball player who kept us entertained while so many others were at war. Leo the Lion for MGM came from Memphis (one of them anyway). Also in this book, Machine Gun Kelly.
If you love Memphis you would want to show off this beautiful book on your coffee table.
