Travels with George in Search of Ben Hur
May 22, 2011

Travels with George in Search of Ben Hur and Other Meanderings
Author: Paul Ruffin
Hardcover: 184 pages
Publisher: University of South Carolina Press (April 15, 2011)
ISBN-13: 978-1570039867

Paul's book grabs you in the first instant just from the titles of the various chapters.    These are little vignettes of daily life that Paul has encountered.  He tells them to you in a naughty, smirking manner that encourages you to feel like you're getting away with something simply by reading it.

"The Mosquito" tells how Paul, and a mosquito, aim their lecherous thoughts at a hot young co-ed.... But the mosquito wins the prize, while Paul just looks like a letch.

"Just Thinking About Shit" discusses the word and it's uses, and somehow manages to use the actual word about 2,000 times in 6 pages.

"The Girl in the Clean, Well-Lighted Place" just makes you think.

I have not come across Paul's books before, but think I'll go find the prior three and read them too.  I think it will be worth it.

Welcome to the Dew Book Review Section!

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
