I found this story interesting because it starts from a different point of view. You know from Page One "whodunit", the question is, can they possibly get away with it!
Detective Ryan Beckman (yes, female) is very beautiful, very good at what she does and very dedicated to her job. She also appears a bit unstable. She did, after all, just shoot dead the man she was having a secret affair with. But as a detective, she knows enough about the law to do a very good job of covering her tracks.
Except that someone saw her. Someone who should never be able to identify her, or even want to get involved.
Detective Ryan should be able to disappear into thin air and continue on the "vacation" she's having right now (you know, instead of driving to other towns and killing men) ....except that since her dead lover was on his way to becoming the Governor of the state, therefore high profile, she gets assigned to his case to find the murderer! Now this gets interesting. Even more interesting when the witness sees the lovely detective on television and instantly recognizes her. We have a positive ID.
The witness can't go to the police with this info since the detective will surely shut that down. So Catherine McLeod, a reporter who's been following the would be Governor for years and has her byline all over his stories is the next best thing. After the anonymous phone calls start, can Catherine dig up enough proof to get the detective convicted, or will the detective be successful in throwing the blame on the wife in the end?
