Karen has created another gripping tale that will give you bags under your eyes as you refuse to go to sleep until you read just one more chapter.  She masterfully blends intrigue, history, supernatural occurrences and love into a bang up story.

This is the story of Ava.  Ava in the present and possibly also in a past life.

Ava's life is a bit of a mess.  She has never found the affection she craves from her mother, she has mysterious old injuries from accidents when she was young that she can't quite remember happening, her sleep is filled with horrible nightmares and she has an all encompassing - and often overwhelming - fear of water.

She also manages to fall in love and marry a man she really knows nothing about in a whirlwind romance. She feels an instant connection to him that she doesn't quite understand, nor does she bother to try.

When he whisks her away to his SEASIDE home - that's correct, right there on the water - Ava begins to discover that her new husband may be keeping some fairly dark secrets from her.  A start to this can of worms is when she finds out she's really wife #2, that wife #1 resembled her and even had her same career as midwife. She also died mysteriously a few years ago.  Matthew, her husband, is a shut book on this subject and always manages to skirt the topic when it arises.

As time goes by and her fear of water doesn't calm, causing her to be basically trapped on the island, Ava requests her husband, who has practiced this type of medicine for years, hypnotize her to help her overcome.

This is where the action starts!  Suddenly Ava begins seeing the lives of other women in the early 1800s.  She feels a deep connection to these woman.  So much so that when she comes out of hypnosis, she decides she must know more.  As she begins to dig into the history of the island, she finds that there are greater mysteries, not only in her new home.. but in her own past young life too.

The burning question that surrounds Ava like a constant niggling buzz in the back of her head is.......what is Matthew hiding and is her own life in danger?

This book has a huge amount of surprise secrets that pop out at the end and make the build up so worth the wait...and also worth the fact that you stayed up way too late the night before to finish it!

Karen does it again!

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
