"Kenny" is a 17 year old girl who's entire life has been confusion and worry.
Her mother is dead, her daddy in prison and she is living on the charity of her daddy's girlfriend, Glo.
Her biggest fear is that when she turns 18 she will be cast out into the world without anyone to help her. While she knows that Glo is kind to her and cares, she can't for a moment believe that a non-relative would continue to help her when there's no longer any need. She loves her adopted family deeply and is terribly afraid of being cast aside.
While she has concerns about where her life will lead her in a few months, she also has strong confusion about herself. She binds her chest, cuts her hair short and can't help but feel attraction for other girls in her classes. She is a definite outcast at school.
This is a very nice coming of age story of a young girl who is finding herself and finding love at the same time. Family love, self love, love of and for another person. At the same time she is dealing with the fear and curiosity surrounding a murder next door to her of a college girl.
A short novel, but satisfying just the same.
