Hannah has managed to truly mess up her life - in a big way.
Coming from a strong Southern family formed by combining two well known and well respected family names, Hannah is expected to act in a very proper fashion.
Instead she runs a sex toy business with her husband... who she just happens to habitually cheat on. She also tends to have episodes where she drinks too much and does silly things - which is where this story starts. She decides to break into her 3 story house via the rooftop window. She's breaking in because she has once again cheated on her husband who kicks her out and changes the locks. Unfortunately, she doesn't manage to break in - she falls off the roof.
Her husband "sends" her home to Charleston to stay in the family mansion for a month or so while they sort out whether this will ever become a marriage again.
Once home, she takes up her obsession that has ruled her life the last 20 years. Her father went out fishing with his dog in a small boat one April day and the boat and dog were found 3 days later. Hannah has always refused to believe he drowned. She also has not forgiven her mother for remarrying less than a year later. She remains suspicious of the entire event.
The story weaves back and forth between her past and present, and includes her brother Palmer and the issues in his life. Hannah and Palmer have a lot of dilemmas in their lives and a lot to resolve before either one of them can go forward.
Good story, but you do tend to find yourself exasperated with the characters - which is a good thing, it means they're real to you.
Katie wrote Girls in Trucks in 2008 and you will the Dew's review for that HERE.
