Michael Taeckens, Online and Paperback Marketing Director at Algonquin, is someone that I respect quite a bit and contact frequently regarding book reviews. I was delightfully surprised when I discovered that he had also edited and published a book of short stories in 2009. I've read quite a few of his internet articles before and enjoyed his writing style. Of course I went out and grabbed myself a copy of this book.
This is a collection of short stories about love. Or should I say, love gone wrong. There's no happy endings here, no pleasant sighs when a story is finished. These are stories of things you can only hope never actually happen in your relationship. You wince while reading. But the stories are good so you keep on reading anyway. George Singleton's is a wonderfully humorous tale of a bad breakup and Michael's made me wish he wrote more.
All I can say is enjoy the book, just don't take it to the beach for a light read... and I wouldn't read it if you're in a down mood. But the stories are worth reading and Michael did a good job putting the anthology together.
