Do you have an eccentric family? One that drives you crazy with their oddness? One that embarrasses you in front of “normal” people?
I think that there are times we all feel like this. The question is, do we learn to embrace the family quirks or do we run away?
Keats has been running away for years. Hers is a family of intellectuals. Screamingly brilliant people.
Her father is world renown for his books and ideas and teachings. Her mother was also quite intelligent but fell hard for her father when young and went on to become the mother of Hopkins (Neurobiologist), Keats (underachiever on purpose) and Milton (Brilliant Agoraphobic).
Keats met her boyfriend when she was 15 and he was 20. As soon as it was legal they moved in together and have been dating a total of 10 years now.
Keats is feeling the 10 year itch of a relationship at the ripe age of 25. Her mother is feeling it at 55 and has tossed Keats dad out on his 75 year old ear to start dating. Hopkins lords her intelligence and heroism in saving brains over the whole family while Milton hides in his room and refuses to acknowledge the fact that his mother plans to sell the house out from under him.
Keats is torn – she can continue on with her life - and Tom - while ignoring her family who think little of Tom and vice versa………….. or she can break free from her youthful prejudices and embrace her families eccentricities.
This is simply a family story. Whether off the beam odd or a regular old Joe type of family, you still must learn to live and love with them, while growing in your own life.
This is Keat’s struggle to do so.
