Those Across the River
Author: Christopher Buehlman
Publisher: Ace hardcover/ Penguin
Publication Date: August 1, 2011
ISBN: 978-0441020676

So your aunt sends you a letter, written while in a morphine addled state, telling you not to move into the house she’s leaving you in her will because bad things will happen.  At the same time, you’re living on your brother’s couch with a divorcee, during the depression, and neither of you have a job or even a prospect of one.  What do you do?

Of course you ignore your aunt’s warning and move to a small Southern town in Georgia to live in the free house while you get your writing career off the ground.

You’re confident that your aunt was just crazy from the pain and the drugs – this small town seems delightful.  Full of charm and hope and happiness, even with the depression in full swing and people barely getting by.

They seem to have an odd habit of sending sacrificial pigs into the woods every full moon.  That doesn’t make much sense, what with people starving and all.

But then they DO stop sending the pigs………………and very bad things begin to happen.

Christopher writes in a very catchy style – the words flow and wrap around your brain from the first paragraph.  A great spooky book that has been compared to Salems’ Lot and I tend to agree with that notion.  You’re invested in the characters and it runs along at a nice pace with just enough spook before the big build up to grab and hook you immediately.

Welcome to the Dew Book Review Section!

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
