When I first received this book for review I was dubious about what sort of review I could give it. I'll be honest, I never read "steps to lead your life" sort of books. They're not my kind of reading.
But Robin is from Pass Christian, Mississippi and she worked so hard to bring notice to the rest of the world about the devastation that the Gulf Coast - besides New Orleans - was dealing with, that I felt I wanted to support her, even if it wasn't my type of book. We Southern girls stick together.
Well. What a pleasant surprise the book turned out to be. While the book is titled Rules to Live By, what Robin really means by that is how she personally has lead her life and the internal rules she refuses to bend. It's an incredibly positive book on what you can do, if you really want, regardless of what others think and say.
If you like autobiographies, this is also the book for you. While she discusses her life rules, she puts them all in stories of her life and how they helped her thru certain situations as they came up. Dealing with Katrina's aftermath is a large part of this book. But there's also certain amusing passages about her life rules telling her not to accept the position on American Gladiator, even though the money was great. (Thank heavens for that one!)
She has a strong family bond that's discussed frequently and with great appreciation for the rest of her family members and their support.
Simply put, I found this to be an extremely positive book to read and that's always a good thing.
