The Girl Who Stopped Swimming
Jun 3, 2009

The Girl Who Stopped Swimming
Author: Joshilyn Jackson
Publisher: Hachette Book Group, Grand Central Publishing
Publication Date: May 2009

Laurel has the perfect suburban life. White picket fence, Victorian style house in a genteel neighborhood, a teen daughter, loving husband who makes a great living.................. and a nutbag of skanky relatives she avoids as much as possible.

Her mother's family is complete white trash - nasty white trash. She comes from a mining town that closed down and left the alcoholics and drug addicts sitting around in dumpy, roofless trailers with no future. Her mother now lives in a make believe world where she has no idea these people are related to her.

Her sister is venom on heels who, when she's allowed in her house, tries her best to destroy Laurel's marriage. She had a nasty perverse Uncle Marty who was "accidentally" shot by her father while hunting.

And to top it all off, Uncle Marty now haunts her.

He was her only ghost, until one of her daughter's friends, Molly, wakes her in the night to show her that her body is floating face down in Laurel's pool.

The police state that it's an accident, but Laurel doesn't think a ghost would bother her for an accident.

What follows is a story of fear, despair, confusion, mystery and resolution of old secrets. Who can Laurel turn to when most of her family seems to avoid facing truths? What follows will send most of the family back to the town of DeLop, Alabama to solve the mystery of Molly and to attempt to save Laurel's family.

Welcome to the Dew Book Review Section!

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
