The RIchest Season
Dec 2, 2009

The Richest Season
Author: Maryann McFadden
Publisher: Hyperion (June 16, 2009)
Language: English
ISBN-10: 1401322700
ISBN-13: 978-1401322700

Originally self-published, Maryann's writing impressed enough that Hyperion picked up the book and republished it this year.

This is the story of Joanna. Joanna spent her entire married life following her husband Paul from one end of the United States to the other as he continued his rise in the corporate world. She faithfully kept the children and the house while he concentrated solely on work. She is lonely and tired and bored of it all, especially since the children have moved out. When Paul surprises her with yet another move, just 2 years after the last one, she rebels and sneaks away while he's on a business trip. She's done with it all.

This is also the story of Paul. Paul has worked very hard for his family all his life. Striving to provide the best for them. Yes he works hard and doesn't spend much time with the family, but don't they understand it's all for them? Then he suddenly loses his high profile job and has time to sit and notice that he doesn't actually know his children at all. Maybe he should change that.

Finally, this is the story of Grace. Grace has terminal cancer that she's hiding from everyone. She hires Joanna for 6 months to help her out, drive her around, etc. For this Joanna lives with her in her home. Her biggest fear is that Joanna will leave her before the 6 months are out and go back to her husband. She fears being alone when the end comes.

The book is about three people, all on the edge of big changes in their lives, or with one, the end of life. How they learn, love and grow as people is a moving story to enjoy.

Welcome to the Dew Book Review Section!

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
