A great book of short stories dealing with citizens in and around New Orleans. Many of the same characters weave in and out of the stories, with the main character being Delia. We watch Delia from the time she's in high school, to all through her adult life. Large chunks of time occur in between various episodes so you rather get a Cliff Notes of her life. It's done in an interesting manner though and you're left pondering the hows and whys of where she is at that point. You want to know why she's at that point, why those decisions were made.
Many other characters weave in and out of these stories. Most of the stories interact with each other to some degree while a few others are completely stand alone except that they are in the same town.
The stories are not happy stories, but most aren't desperately sad either, just moments of life.
Good clean writing with an easy reading flow. Barb keeps the writing simple and the emotions deep. Just the way I like it.
