What a fun book series!

These books come out each October and star Elvis, only he happens to be reincarnated into a Basset Hound. Now if that doesn’t get your attention…..

Elvis belongs to Callie, a lovely woman who runs a beauty parlor and tries desperately to control her mother, who happens to look hot for her age and has a strong gambling compulsion.

Callie is married to the mysterious Jack, who’s career remains unknown to her after 7 years together. Fed up with that, she has separated from him, but he has the habit of just breaking into her house and visiting whenever he returns from one of his “trips”. She is torn between Jack, who she still loves even if he drives her crazy, and a nice new stable man whose job she knows and who doesn’t break into her house whenever he comes to visit – he actually uses the phone. Callie dreams of a “normal” life with a house, hubby, picket fence and children running around.

In the newest book in the series (they come out every October 1st by the way), there is a murderer loose at the weekend dance contest that Callie and her cousin, Lovie, are attending with Elvis and Callie’s mother, Ruby Nell. Two woman are killed at separate times and suddenly Callie finds herself in the middle of the mystery, along with her not-ex-mystery husband, Jack. Let’s not forget Elvis – he’s hot on the trail of the murderer, and ducks, and food……
A fun set of books, plenty of eccentric characters and humor involved, a good mystery to solve in each.

I will say that while each book is a stand alone story, it does help to have read them in order for character creation and knowledge of the background situation. I noticed that while I was reading the latest book, my brain did a “download” on each character I came across with their backstory and that was helpful.

Welcome to the Dew Book Review Section!

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
