The Dew first reviewed this book in July of 2010 and it is now re-issuing in paperback. An enjoyable book - now in a convenient "carry around in your purse" size! :)
Anna Fields is a good ole Southern Debutante………except she’s not. After all of her formative years were spent training to come out at the big ball in her honor at the appropriate age – she never received an invitation. Anna was always a little too left of center of proper for the cotillion mamas.
So Anna decides to head on off into the big bright world and make a success of herself. Which she does, she’s now a successful television writer and playwright, but it’s the experience of getting there that this book is about.
There are many funny comparisons between being raised a Southern Belle and then finding out what the real world’s all about. She references her young life and her raising and then describes how she uses these Southern charms of hers to make it in the big cities of Los Angeles and New York.
Along the way you also get to enjoy some salacious gossip regarding the rich and famous who she nannied, assisted and worked with on movie sets. These stories are not very flattering to the famous themselves and there’s one that has me watching Grey’s Anatomy a little more intently these days!
This is an interesting story of “What do I want to be when I grow up” and “How can I embrace my heritage and upbringing to help get me there?”
