This is, so far, my favorite Wendy Wax novel. The characters are just real people that you can connect to easily. It's a fun read that keeps you interested in the story the entire way through. Perfect for this summer season coming up!
Nicole, Avery and Madeline all have separate stories of how they lost their financial security due to a Ponzi scheme. The mastermind has run away with millions of dollars and many of the investors, including the ladies above, are left flat broke.
The courts award them shared ownership in a palatial beach house in Florida. The only problem - it's an abandoned mess. They're offered a deal by a local contractor who wants a portion of the profit if he supplies the material and the subcontractors. The sticking point - they have to spend the summer down at the house as manual labor to help reduce costs and up the profit margin.
This is how three woman, all vastly different, come to spend the summer together in Florida working on a house. They have very little money and a pile of secrets between them. The struggle will be to overcome any biases and distrusts and work together toward a common goal.
The beauty of this book is that it manages to tell the story without become overly dramatic or sappy. At no time do these woman become caricatures that you just feel like shaking into reality.
