Book Description:
A TREK TO FIND A RARE MIGRATORY SHOREBIRD TURNS INTO A TEST OF FAITH AND AN ALL-OUT EFFORT TO SAVE ONE OF THE LAST UNTOUCHED WILD LANDS.
Photographer of birds Samuel Leaton, sets out to find the “possibly extinct” Northern Stilted Curlew, when he suddenly gets caught up in a battle to protect a remote backcountry forest. As the men from Century Corp. drive in with their rigs to begin drilling for natural gas, Samuel and a rogue park ranger take up a fight no one else will.
Samuel photographs the elusive and rare birds that most people never get a chance to see. As he seeks out the most-elusive Northern Stilted Curlew, he struggles with the memory of his wife, who died a year earlier from cancer. Along his search, Samuel encounters Thomas, a park ranger who has a run-in with the law, and together they will make a trek to the far reaches of Wilson Sanford National Forest's northern glacial lakes to prove the Curlew exists—and eventually make one final shot to save it’s last breeding ground.

Idgie Says:
This story will definitely be of interest to anyone who is passionate about conservation, endangered/rare species and the environment in general.

It combines a fictional story together with an Audubon guidebook. While sharing a story of human interaction and healing, the pages are also filled with incredibly descriptive scenes involving local wildlife - mainly birds.

Several characters come together - joining forces in a search for a possibly already extinct bird.  Along the way they have to deal with companies more than ready to rip up the forest for profit.  While fighting an environmental issue greater than themselves, they find healing and friendship.

Good story with information we could all use intertwined within.

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
