Velma is a lonely old woman who sits on her porch and watches life pass her by. She hasn't left her front yard in several years, ever since her husband died. She has a son, but he leads a rather worthless existence of women and booze and rarely remembers to stop in and visit.

Velma is basically waiting to die and be with her husband Joe somewhere else. She has nothing else to look forward to. Her friend Sara tries everything she can, but Velma refuses to take life by the horns again.

Then a mystery man wanders up to her porch and gives her a gift - a small brown, dull looking rock. That is until Velma holds it in her hand.

Then wonderful and scary things begin to happen. The rock takes her into the past, but also brings the past into the present. She finds herself reliving giving birth to her son, Rudy. She finds her husband, Joe, in the yard and they spend a good amount of time together - the only catch is that he's 40 years younger than her. Joe comes to her bed in the night, this time he's only 20 years younger. She loses herself in the past for days on end. She is basically traveling through time to relive parts of her life.

Meanwhile, Annie arrives in town. A 14 year old runaway from a worthless Aunt, she's drawn to the town and perhaps the rock. But something is chasing her. Something not so nice.

Something not so nice is also stalking around Velma's house, looking for that rock.

Velma can't begin to fathom whether this rock is good or bad - and why she's the one picked to have it. This rock, whatever it truly is, starts to draw various people in the town together, but no one quite knows how, why or how it all will end.

This is the story of normal people leading normal lives.........and then one day extraordinary things begin to happen to make them all rethink their futures. A story of redemption and love. A story worth reading.

Welcome to the Dew Book Review Section!

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
