This is a sequel to "A Year on Ladybug Farm" - where the story starts as three best friends decide to "retire" and move to a run-down mansion in Shenandoah Valley. The ladies are of "a certain age" but still have many years left with which to reach and enjoy their personal goals.
The current story starts with Spring of the following year. They now inhabit this mansion, which they succeeded in doing very little with the past year. They are struggling to figure out the best and most affordable way to make a success out of this endeavor.
The family has grown with the addition of a 15 year old homeless boy found living in one of their sheds, a daughter who has decided she doesn't need college and will stay with mom while evaluating her life, and the housekeeper who came with the house and has no plans to go anywhere else.
This is a nice story of people working through the various hardships of home ownership, domestic squabbles, teen angst and trying to earn a living doing what you love. There are a few near tragedies, the threat of one of their new families members being ripped away from them, the excitement of finding out mysteries associated with the old mansion.
Overall a pleasant book to read that will leave you with a warm, fuzzy feeling at the end.
