I read this book, then laughed when I saw that the publicity sheet described the book the same as I did. So let it be known now, this is not plagiarism when I say that the book reminded me strongly of Bridges of Madison County.
It's a very sweet story of a love that shouldn't have a future. Whether it does or not I leave to you, the reader, to find out.
Colleen is getting married to the perfect man. Her grandmother, Lily, feels she's making a terrible mistake.
As she's attempting to find a way to gently ask Colleen to really look deep into her feelings and heart and make sure she's happy with how her life will turn out, Lily discovers something that shocks her deeply and send her spiraling back into her memories of youth.
The book shoots back to 1945 and WWII, where Lily patiently waits for her husband to return from war as her youth slowly disappears. Then she runs into Jake in a field, setting off fireworks for his upcoming Fourth of July show. Fireworks of the other sort have a strong possibility of occurring.
What does Lily do back in 1945 and how might that affect Colleen's decision regarding her own future?
A good, fast read with a fine dose of romance thrown in.
