I know what you’re thinking... what is a book named Mao’s Last Dancer, written by a Chinese Dude doing on the Dew? Well, Li’s life story carries him from a tiny village in China to Houston, where he was an acclaimed star of the Houston Ballet for many years.
He was raised in China and handpicked by the dance academy to go train, whether he wanted to or not. After years of schooling, he was put into an exchange program with the US and sent here to dance for the next 16 years in Houston before moving to Australia. He rose to great success in the ballet.
This is a true American Story of Success, even if it did start in China.
This is a movie tie-in book. The movie comes out August 20th and was picked as Runner Up to Precious at the Torento Film Festival for popular vote Audience Award. It’s written quite nicely, with easy to read passages that keep you entertained. I’m proud that he reached such success over here – whether he ever planned it himself or not.
