She's Gone Country
Dec 5, 2010

She's Gone Country
Author: Jane Porter
Publisher: 5 Spot/Hachette Book Group
Publication Date: August, 2010
ISBN: 978-0-446-50941-1

This is what I call a combination story. One part is rollicking sexual tension fun, and one part discusses a very serious concern in today's world.

Shey Darcy has had her world turned upside down. After 17 years of marriage with a man she's quite happy with, after 3 sons with him - all now teenagers, after a successful 20 years as an international model, wife and mother............... her husband leaves her...........for a man.

Devastated, Shey runs away home to Texas, her family ranch, her big handsome brothers............. and runs smack into the love of her life who she hasn't seen since she was 16.

This is the rollicking sexual part of the book - passions still run strong for Mr. Dane Kelly, rodeo star. Could she possibly make work what didn't the first time?

The serious part of the book, especially to me as a mother of teens, is how Shey has to deal with her sons moving to a new area, going to a new school and encountering that bullying we hear so much about these days. Text bullying, Facebook bullying... all the scary things we want to protect our kids from. Her 14 year old boy suffers from the same depression that caused her favorite older brother to kill himself and this already has Shey on edge, desperate to make sure her son receives the help he needs. But when the bullying starts also, this becomes an urgent issue to get the help and support needed so that her son will not only survive, but thrive.

Meanwhile she has to also deal with the emotions of her other sons and their wants, while still trying to realize a few of her own dreams.

A good fast read that makes you think.

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
