Fizz, Fishnet and Finale is a trilogy set that's not necessarily a trilogy. You can read them in any order you like - some of the characters weave in and out of each other's stories, but they don't follow a set pattern. Any theme here is the theme of "identity".
Each story is based on one main character trying to find themselves in today's confusing world. These people are all on a mission to become the person they feel they ought to be.
Finale deals with Jonathan, who wanders from woman to woman, trying to find what he's looking for - even though he's not quite sure what that is. Each new woman in his life awakens a new and unknown part of himself......to himself.
In Fishnet, Maurice is a man who is feeling dis-involved from his own life and wondering how to get back on track with it. At the same time he's watching his wife drift farther and farther away from him and their marriage. Maurice is also watching the town he lives in slowly sink into it's own state of disrepair.
Fizz is the story of Ray. Ray doesn't like himself much so he decides to change to a more interesting character. He becomes a rock star. When that falls flat, he turns completely around and decides to become a proper gentleman. Find out what Ray finally manages to become.
These are edgy, urban, vibrant books. Thin novels, but packed with emotion and power. Paul is a very interesting voice out there in the world that you might just find to be what you're looking for in a storyteller.
