The Fat Man, A Tale of North Pole Noir
Dec 8, 2010

The Fat Man, A Tale of North Pole Noir
Author: Ken Harmon
Publisher: Dutton/Penguin Group USA
Publication Date: 2010
ISBN: 978-0-525-95195-7

This is definitely a different variety of Christmas tale.  It's a play on the old noir stories with a hardened detective, mysterious women and a crime to be solved.

But this story stars Santa's elves and many of the characters we all know from years of Christmas movies.

When a rough, unsavory father of a hardened naughty Christmas boy is murdered - by being shot through the eye with Ralphie's Red Ryder BB gun no less! - Gumdrop Coal elf must find who committed this horrible crime before he's framed for it.  Gumdrop is first in line to be pinned with the crime since he's an elf who's had it "up to here" with the naughty children of today's society and the parents that foster their behavior.  He's been playing hardball with the coal in the stocking, so it's easy to assume he'd snap.

A fun book to read and anything that has characters from "A Christmas Story" in it is high on my list.

Welcome to the Dew Book Review Section!

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
