This is the fourth book in the Angels of Mercy series. While this can easily be a stand alone book, I did feel that these characters had known each other for a while and there was a lot of back story I was missing. That being said, the book itself is interesting enough for me to suggest that you go back to the start of the series and learn about these characters from the beginning.
Where the story picks up in this book, Jerry, a police detective, is in the hospital recovering from a bullet to the head by an unknown assailant who tried to kill one of his fiance’s co-workers at the hospital – Lydia. Lydia has a very mysterious past, one that she’s not even sure of the entire story. All she knows is that when she asked Jerry to investigate her mother’s murder from 18 years ago, suddenly a hit man shows up trying to kill her.
Now it’s Pittsburgh in the middle of a blizzard and terrorists have attacked the hospital, put it into lockdown and are threatening to kill everyone unless Lydia shows up. Problem is, Lydia is trapped in the snowstorm outside the hospital leaving Jerry, his fiance Gina, and many other friends and co-workers at the mercy of these killers.
Why are the killers so determined to get to Lydia? Is she hiding something, or does she have knowledge that she doesn’t even realize?
A good medical thriller with more action than medicine.
