When I first received this book I took a step back as I staggered from the mailbox - it was a much larger book than expected. Over 400 pages. It was advertised to me as a fun beach read and I was wondering how long I'd need to be at the beach.

But once I settled in and started reading those pages just flew by. It truly is a fast, fun book that you can just sit down and sink your teeth into.

Dempsey Jo Killebrew is a lobbyist in Washington who suddenly finds herself on the outside of the law, unemployed, and wanted for discussion by the FBI after her boss is accused of bribery and other interesting things. She can't find employment while her face is plastered all over the news, and she certainly can't afford her $2,000 a month apartment. What to do?

Her father comes up with a solution for her. He has recently inherited an antebellum home in Guthrie, Georgia from a relative no one has ever met. It's apparently in need of some TLC. He offers Dempsey the job of going down there for a few months and getting it ready for sale. With no other options in pocket, she heads down South.

There the fun begins. She finds a handsome lawyer/newspaper editor ready to help her.. and more than willing to become a love interest; a handsome older version of the same person willing to be her lawyer when the FBI start pressing her to head back to Washington wearing a wire to get a confession out of her old boss; a realtor who can't hold his liquor and keeps painting her house when she's not around; and finally, a very hostile great Aunt of some sort who's apparently squatting in Dempsey's house, refusing to leave.

Dempsey discovers love, a possible new life, and a sudden interest in home refurbishing while hoping to not end up in jail.

A fun book filled with interesting folk who will continue to interest and amuse you while you read.

If you haven't made it to the beach yet.... be sure to pack this in your bag.

Welcome to the Dew Book Review Section!

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
