Eliot has recently turned 49 and hit the dreaded "mid-life crisis" moment. His teenage daughter has no time for him, his wife has grown more distant with each year, his work is unrewarding and he's filled with the ever famous "What ifs".
He decides to take a road trip to visit old friends, old memories, old times. As he's embarking on this trip he discovers that his wife appears to be having an online flirtation with someone and this becomes a sudden obsession on his part during his trip... to log into her account as often as possible, become a voyeur, and see if she goes through with her flirtatious suggestions or not.
Eliot's travels are wonderful to read. Gary writes in a no nonsense, straight forward way that keeps the mind on the story itself and not the style in which it was written. He reconnects with old friends that he's lost touch with, shares heartfelt moments and at the same time meets new friends that open his eyes to new thoughts and feelings. Some of the chapters are filled with hilarity and some share fears that we all have in life.
I very much enjoyed this book and look forward to more from Gary in the future.
