Witches on the Road Tonight
Author: Sheri Holman
Publisher: Atlantic Monthly Press
Publication Date: March 2011
ISBN: 978-0-8021-1943-8

Every now and again you come across a story that is completely out of the norm, one you haven’t encountered even a similarity to before.  This is one of those stories.

As Eddie Alley lays in bed, apparently plotting his own suicide before illness carries him away, his mind begins to wander from the present to the past, in not any particular order.

The memories carry him from his youth -  where he lived in abject poverty in the Appalachians with a mother who was labeled a witch -  to his current status of an ill elderly man planning his death.

He managed to escape a life that he otherwise would never have left as a result of being hit by a car when he was a boy by a couple from New York, who, while waiting for him to recuperate, showed him the wonders of modern technology and forever changed his thinking.

His thoughts dwell on his very successful life as a “male Elvira”, introducing scary movies on television for many years while dressed as a vampire rising out of a coffin.  They then travel to the young intern that he took into his home years ago who caused great distress between himself and his then 12 year old daughter.  A daughter who he is still somewhat estranged from on this, his final day.  A large part of the estrangement is a dark secret they hold together that slowly emerges the story grows.

Welcome to the Dew Book Review Section!

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
