This is a slim volume of poetry that holds a pleasant surprise for the readers.
You may think the title says it all - a book of 'Thank you God for my great luck' and punishment for being a bad person committing horrible deeds.
Not at all. Some of the curses are merely having a small self loathing about a part of your personality you perceive as a weakness. Not a curse, not a bad thing, but something you feel you need to change about yourself. A refusal to believe that your life holds promise. The curses that are self induced.
Then the curses grow deeper - curses of Hiroshima, 9/11, cancer, abuse, loneliness, death.
The blessings are simple things in life that bring peace and joy - brightly colored dresses, soft hands after a hard days work. Something so calming as going home to the house you love after a week away on a business trip. Finding love again after 40 something years apart. Fighting segregation, finding a home for the homeless, and their pets. Little things in life that can mean so much.
A lovely book that makes you think twice about the everyday occurrences in life - from the tragedies to the joys.
