It seems like so many authors are jumping on the YA bandwagon these days. While I embrace it as it grows readers among the young, I'm still surprised when authors such as Dean Koontz and yes... the gore-master of serial killers - James Patterson - decides to do so.
I had to say I was dubious about this book when I heard about it. I have to admit I was quickly turned around by two things. First, the graphics in the book are very reminiscent of Diary of a Wimpy Kid and Captain Underpants - always a hit - and secondly my son coming home from school, seeing and immediately grabbing it saying to me, "Mom, you got a kid book, it looks cool, can I read it?".
There's my review. :)
In all seriousness, it's a fun book about Rafe, who decides, along with his best friend to award each other points for getting in trouble their first year of Middle School and whoever has the most points "wins". Apparently regardless of the fact that winning could get them suspension. Not to worry, the book does have life lessons in it and Rafe eventually has to decide whether being the cool, in trouble kid is really what he wants to achieve as a life goal.
Now I have to hand the book back to my son so he can finish it.
