Are you “Helicopter Parent”? Know of one in your neighborhood? One who sacrifices all of their life for their child’s activities, functions, needs and wants? This books shows you that not only do you need to let children have more freedom and independence to grow than they tend to have these days, but reminds you that you have your own needs that should not be ignored. Just because you're a parent doesn’t mean you cease to exist as a person.
14 authors and experts have gotten together with Amy Tiemann to work together on this book.
The book goes into detail on everything from raising a safe child in today’s world without smothering or frightening them about life, giving children the freedom they need to learn from their own mistakes while still being the parent they want and need, to re-inventing yourself and becoming who you want to be without sacrificing all.
There is a ton of great ideas, advice and wisdom in this book and since I still have children in grade school, I plan to pay close attention to this book myself.
Definitely a book you should read if you feel that you are so involved with your kids that you've lost your sense of self. Learn how to give your kids, and yourself, more "alone" time and independence!
