This is the 16th book in the Deborah Knott mystery series and I’ll say I greatly enjoyed it. One of the main reasons is that the way the story is told, the murder is almost a backdrop to a tale of everyday life and events.
Two lovely people, Deborah, who’s a judge, and her husband Dwight, Chief Deputy of the small Southern town they live in are embarking on their first year of marriage. Their lives are surrounded by everyday events, family relations, a strong open door policy in their home and a lot of love and camaraderie.
Surrounding this everyday living is the the mysterious death of a high school senior cheerleader – a death at first thought accidental but may in the end turn out to be a murder. As Deborah has the large family with many teens in it, there’s a sense of familiarity with the death which is sobering. There also exists in this story line a back door message of how many teenagers die in car accidents from drinking, drugs and texting.
When it’s discovered that someone may have had something to do with the girl's death, Deborah, Dwight and their co-workers pool their resources and talents on this possible murder case.
This is a story about family and togetherness……….that happens to have a crime or two mixed in.
The Dew reviewed the previous book in this series, Sand Sharks in May of 2009.
