Well butter my butt and call me a biscuit - Idgie is giving this book a huge thumbs up! I very much enjoyed reading this story and meeting the characters in the book.

Originally written in 2002, Karen decided to revisit the folks in Walton and freshen them up a bit and perhaps insert a bit of flair left out the first go round. I would say this book compares more to her Tradd Street series than the other stand alone books she's written.

Cassie ran away from home and to New York 15 years ago after being jilted by her boyfriend, who just happened to elope with her sister. She has never been back. She's missed the birth of 5 nieces and nephews and the love of her friends and family. Well, now her father is dying and wants her home. She leaves her fiance back in New York (he's far too busy to go down South with her) and heads back to the family home where she has to deal with the awkwardness of seeing her sister, her old boyfriend (now her sister's husband) and the rest of the folks that still love and care for her, even after all this time.

Then there's Sam......the town doctor and resident heart throb. He has apparently been holding a crush for her since she ran away.

As Cassie settles in for an extended stay after her father informs all that she now owns the family house, what will happen to her well organized and planned out New York life? Slowly she remembers the charm of a small town and close ties. She remembers the warmth and comfort it can provide.

Coming from a small town in Mississippi, at times I felt I was reliving my youth. The people in this story are charming, with just enough humor and sarcasm to stop them from becoming saccharine while still staying lovely, warm folks you would want to spend the day on the porch with.

Wait until you meet elderly Ms. Lena and experience her penchant for reading the "hot" parts out of romance novels to whoever will sit still long enough to listen!

Wonderful book - run right out and get yourself a copy!

PS - The beginning phrase to this review is straight from the book. I do not, on a regular basis, go around throwing out phrases like Flo at the Diner, but this one stuck! :)

Welcome to the Book Review Section at the Dew!

If you are a publishing house or author who has a book Southern in nature, or by a Southern writer, that you would like the Dew to review, please contact me at dewonthekudzu@gmail.com and I will provide you mailing information. (Wink wink, nudge nudge... the Dew has been getting a little lax about the Southern rule recently... just saying.)

The Dew tries it's best to have a review online as close to the publication date as possible, depending on the number of books waiting for review.

Please note, book reviews are the Dew's "business". The Dew does NOT post it's reviews on other sites. Please do not request that we do so. Thank you.

BUT, if I review your book, you may feel free to share it wherever you wish!
