A fun to read, fast paced novel with an intriguing premise - What if you keep coming back to life, no matter what? Does life not matter as much anymore?
This is what suddenly starts to happen to the Fireson brothers when they "wake up" in a morgue, naked, with bullet wounds all over their chests after an ambush in their safe house.
The Fireson boys, or Firefly Brothers as the public knows them, just happen to be bank robbers of high renown during Prohibition and the Depression. They started out as booze runners but after Jason had a few stints in jail he decided they needed a "easier" way to get money. They were considered heroes by some and the enemy by all law enforcement.
The book starts as they are hunted by all branches of the law after being put on the most wanted list. They've been ambushed and come back alive. Jason and Whit have no idea what has happened to them but they do want to know who snitched. The $70,000 they had is also gone. So now they're alive, naked and poor. They also don't look that good.
Thus begins a great story involving the entire Fireson family, girlfriends, shootouts, kidnapping and the fame that comes with suddenly being immortal as they make it through many different occurrences that have them seemingly rise from the dead again and again.
The Firefly Brothers are actually quite likable characters that I enjoyed getting to know.
Well written with a straight forward use of language and much dry humor in the dialogue. Just the way I like it.
