Snow Day is a slim first novel from Billy Coffey that, while giving a message about caring and faith, also manages to share a well written story filled with gentle humor and words.
Peter is under much stress as he is sure he will be laid off at any time from the factory where he works. He fears for the welfare of his family. But as the snow falls heavily and he stays home from work for a “Snow Day” he begins to see how very lucky he is.
He heads out to the giant Mart store, where we can all relate to the moment he sucks in his breath and heads into the crammed bread aisle for one of the most important needs during snowstorms in the South – bread. (The second, of course, is milk!)
As he strives to complete his errands, he comes across strangers who open his eyes to the beauty of life that he may have forgotten in his everyday struggles to provide for his family.
As he meets people, learns lessons and realizes the wonder and beauty in his own life, the entire day turns into a beautifully written story of love and hope.
A lovely story.
